Second Semester 2011

  • June 2011- 2011 NPA Implementation Annual Review Meeting with all stakeholders, in Accra Ghana
  • Publication of the Standards for Residential Facilities
  • Publications of the Standards for Foster Care
  • Updating of OVC Ghana Website (www.ovcghana.org)

First Semester 2011

  • During the first trimester of 2011 the National OVC Co-ordinating Committee worked on the various draft versions of the Foster Care Regulations and the Residential Care Standards.
  • The Care Reform Initiative office also test ran a database on OVC donated by Unicef.
  • The National OVC Coordinating Committee met twice and mandated an implementation committee to set a date and an agenda for the Annual Review Meeting on the NPA that is scheduled to take place in June 2011
  • A meeting was recently held in Tamale held for sixty (60) partners involved in operating Residential Homes in the northern sector and it was very successful.
  • Fourteen other orphanages have been closed down while three others are on the waiting list to be closed down
  • one of these homes has petitioned to MOWAC & MESW and the case is currently being investigated
  • Five licenses were issued to the following orphanages
  • Chance for Children
  • Living Hope
  • Komenda
  • Kinder Paradise and
  • Father’s Home

Past Actions 2010

  • During 2009 and 2010 the National OVC Coordinating Committee revised the draft versions of the National Plan of Action (NPA) put together by the international expert Andrew Dunn.The NPA outlines the complete frame work for caring for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Ghana.
  • On the 27th of October 2010 the Official Launch of the Ghana National Plan of Action For Orphans and Vulnerable Children took place with Azumah Mensah, Minister for Women and Children's Affairs and the Hon ET Mensah, Minster of Employment and Social Welfare presiding.
